When taking photographs, it is beneficial to record details for each frame. Usually, the most important details to record are the aperture and shutter speed settings, but it is also helpful to record the date, lens used, filter(s) used, and anything else noteworthy. This information can later be used to assist in editing, for analysis when things go right or wrong, or just for sharing with other photographers.

Since a standard roll of 35mm film has either 24 or 36 exposures, do not rely on your memory. Record the details as you take each frame. This can be done on a blank piece of paper if needed, but since the type of information to record is pretty much the same for each frame, it's easier to use a blank form. Therefore, Explore Photography has created a free, downloadable, pre-formatted photography log for you to use.

This photography log is stored in the Adobe PDF file format. It can be viewed and printed on all major platforms using free Adobe Acrobat Reader software. The PDF document contains two pre-printed forms, side by side on a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper. Simply print the PDF document, then either fold or cut it in half. Feel free to make as many copies as you need. The photography log is not copyrighted.
